Raised in a rare two-family alliance, now striking out on her own.

Few bears get an education like 620's. Introduced to Brooks River as a spring cub in 2022, she grew up inside an event only rarely documented among brown bears: her mother, 910, and her aunt, 909, bonded their families together that summer. Each mom had a single cub, and from early August to late October the group largely traveled, fished, and played together. The next year, 910 and 620 adopted 909's cub, 609, into their family. Call it a Brooks River co-op preschool.

Then, in spring 2025, 910 separated from her cubs, and 620 began a new chapter. She's now on the cusp of adulthood, recognizable by her long tail and light brown fur that turns grizzled brown by late summer. How will she use that rare upbringing to strike her own path? Knowing the river, and knowing how to share space with her large mother and aunt, may prove key to her survival and success. Fat Bear Week gives the pool a chance to weigh in.
