Independent unusually early, scarred young, and now raising her first known litter.

Meet the tournament's pocket-sized survivor. When 610 was first identified in the fall of 2015, she was so small that many rangers believe she was a yearling, on her own at an age when most Katmai cubs are still trailing their mothers. A sudden danger or accident may have contributed to the early split. That same year she carried a large, healing wound above her hips. The scar, sometimes still visible, marks an attack she survived at one of the most vulnerable points in her life.

This season brought a new challenge. 610 arrived at the river with her first known litter, two spring cubs, and has kept them nurtured and safe all summer, a difficult feat for first-time moms in Katmai. Look for the long muzzle and grizzled light brown fur. Small in stature, with a disproportionately large ability to overcome hardship, 610 makes her first Fat Bear Week appearance.
